Snow Camp London
Our London courses are run by Angus Maclellan and take place at the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead.
At Snow Camp, we believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive, no matter their background. As a UK charity, we use the power of snowsports to support young people from underserved communities with life skills training, mental health support, qualifications and mentorship.
We work nationwide to break down barriers, build confidence and create brighter futures – all through the transformative experience of the snow.
In 2003, Snow Camp was born from a moment of realisation. Our Founder, Dan Charlish, was working as a youth worker on an estate in Stockwell when he overheard his group saying, while playing a snowboarding Xbox game, that this was the closest they’d ever get to the snow. A passionate snowboarder himself, Dan saw an opportunity.
He took that moment and turned it into a mission – to use snowsports as a way to engage young people and create positive change. The contrast between the inner-city and the mountain environment had a powerful impact. Simply stepping onto snow opened up new worlds and widened horizons.
In our early days, Snow Camp focused on residential trips abroad. But we soon realised that young people needed ongoing support closer to home. So in 2007, we developed a UK-based training model, working in partnership with indoor snow centres across the country.
From that point forward, our programme journey evolved into a year-round offering – starting with First Tracks and building up to Excel, where young people return to the mountains as part of their instructor training.
Since 2007, we’ve grown into a national charity supporting young people from four hubs: London, North West, Midland and Scotland. As our programmes expanded, so did our understanding of what young people really need to thrive.
Today, mental health support is woven through every stage of our journey, from wellbeing sessions to 1:1 support. Each of our Snow Camp regions has a wellbeing manager who works alongside the programme manager to deliver life skills workshops, recognised qualifications, volunteering opportunities, and apprenticeships to help young people step forward with confidence.
Our London courses are run by Angus Maclellan and take place at the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead.
Our North West courses are run by Morv Bett and take place at the Chill Factore in Manchester.
Our Scotland courses are run by Laura McIntyre and take place at Snow Factor and Bearsden Ski and Board Club in Glasgow.
Our Midlands courses are run by Amiee Borton and take place at the SnowDome in Tamworth.
Snowsports are more than just fun – they’re a powerful tool for transformation. For many young people we work with, stepping onto snow is a first. It challenges them, inspires them and gives them a sense of achievement like nothing else.
The mountain environment creates a shift in mindset, helping young people believe they can do more, be more, and go further. Snowsports demand focus, teamwork, and perseverance – all essential life skills that transfer far beyond the slopes.
Our Mission:
To use snowsports to engage young people facing barriers, offering them life-changing opportunities to grow, thrive and succeed.
Our Vision:
A future where all young people, regardless of their background, have the support, skills and self-belief to achieve their full potential.
