Last week Snow Camp were delighted to once again be the charity partner at the annual Knight Frank City Ski Championships in Crans Montana.
The Snow Camp team, made up of founder Dan Charlish, London Programme Manager Daisy Aylott and young people Milky and Hannah (from our London and Midlands programmes) all landed in the beautiful Swiss resort ready to make the most of the opportunity!
In the past we had delivered a Team Distance Challenge for attendees to enjoy – but this time it was all about a Laser Biathlon, which the team from Snow Camp set up and ran in the race paddock with help from the ESS, with the traditional slalom races taking place nearby.
Teams enjoyed the challenge of racing around 2 flat laps before focusing on the laser shooting element, with each target hit reducing their overall time. Many congratulations to Prikey’s Angels from Lockton for the win, in an impressive combined time of 1.51sec.
Equally important was the chance for Snow Camp to speak at the FT Forum in the evening, giving us a chance to talk about our work to everyone at the event. Milky and Hannah bravely shared their stories in front of a packed room – and the audience were hugely supportive and inspired.
As young Snow Camp ambassadors they could not have done any more over the few days of the event. They interacted with everyone, loved being in the mountains and even entered the giant slalom race themselves – a new experience for both young people and resulting in a Ladies Snowboard winner medal for Hannah, and a Best Wipeout award for Milky. Both received medals on stage at the Awards Dinner to close the event. Amazing stuff.
Snow Camp Patrons and Ambassadors Graham Bell, Emily Sarsfield and Frank Gardner were at the event and all hugely supportive, Snow+Rock kindly collected donations for Snow Camp through the servicing of many skis and F1 legend Damon Hill, who has now met Snow Camp on a number of occasions said, ‘the young people stole the show!’
Founder Dan Charlish said:
“It was a fantastic few days in Crans Montana and we are so grateful as always for the opportunity to be here and share the work we do with guests. The young people loved the whole experience, and the whole Snow Camp team were delighted to be a part of the event. Thank you to Amin and team Momentum for having us a charity partner, and the wonderful team at Knight Frank for sponsoring us to be able to attend.”
Tim Hyatt, Head of Knight Frank UK Residential Business said:
“The coming together of a range of different businesses as the principle sponsor was fantastic to see. All credit to Amin at Momentum for such a good few days with us all connecting as we did, but more importantly seeing and hearing from the team at Snow Camp. It was great to see the wonderful work that Dan is doing by giving kids from challenging backgrounds an opportunity to build a new life filled with support and guidance through snow sports ”
Mark Harvey, Department Head International Residential said:
“It was an absolute pleasure to meet Dan and the team and a privilege to be supporting such a meaningful cause. We are all in awe of the work you do and your selfless commitment and the positive impact you are having on young lives. Seeing Hannah & Milky up there on stage and sharing their experience with us later that evening with such confidence is testament to the great work you do and the importance your organisation plays in changing the lives of young people.”
Amin Momen, Managing Director of Momentum Ski and organiser of City Ski Championships said:
“Once again, having Snow Camp at the event has added something special, bringing a really fun challenge for everyone to try in the biathlon, and also giving us the chance to meet some fantastic young people who were wonderful ambassadors for the positive impact of Snow Camp’s work.”
If you would like to donate to support Snow Camp’s work with young people, you can do so here. Thank you.
